Community Nutrition Has Entered a New Stage, Focusing on Policies and Solutions with Practical Skills in Community Care
On December 25, in Thai Binh, the Vietnam Nutrition Association, in collaboration with the Vietnam Military Medicine Association and Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, organized the 2024 Nutrition Science Workshop on Public Health.
The Important Role of Nutrition
In his opening speech at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Khai, President of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, stated that community nutrition has now entered a new phase, with advancements in both nutrition policies and solutions, incorporating many practical skills for community care.
“Nutrition security today is not just about providing balanced, timely, and adequate nutrients according to the body’s needs, but also about supplying natural bioactive compounds, creating beneficial environments within the body, enhancing bodily functions, combating aging, supporting disease prevention, and contributing to the improvement of each individual’s quality of life,” emphasized the President of the Vietnam Nutrition Association.
At the workshop, keynote speakers, including leading medical experts, presented scientific reports highlighting the significance of the nutrition field and the role of nutrition in various diseases.
Prof. Dr. Pham Le Tuan, President of the Vietnam Military Medicine Association and former Deputy Minister of Health, affirmed that the foundation of medicine is based on nutrition. “Most diseases are caused by nutritional imbalances,” he emphasized.
The current nutritional situation faces three main challenges: undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and overweight/obesity. These issues stem from improper nutrition, a lack of understanding about nutrition, and insufficient knowledge of health and food safety.
The President of the Vietnam Military Medicine Association proposed solutions to improve primary healthcare quality to establish a comprehensive, closed network from communities to hospitals and vice versa in the context of nutrition care.
Analyzing the importance of nutrition, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Chuyen (Military Medical Academy) quoted the famous hygienist G.V. Hlopin: “Good nutrition is the foundation of everyone’s health, as it increases the body’s resistance to disease-causing factors. Mental and physical development, as well as labor and combat abilities, depend on nutrition.”
Addressing one of the most concerning global health issues—obesity—Dr. CK2 Do Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice President of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, shared that the condition is rapidly increasing. Among the proposed solutions for controlling and treating obesity, Dr. Diep highlighted that lifestyle and nutritional interventions are fundamental and must be part of all treatment approaches.
Experts agree that one of the simplest solutions to help the body absorb nutrients is drinking plenty of water. Among the options available, natural alkaline mineral water, recognized globally for its natural minerals and numerous health benefits, has gained the trust of many consumers.
Studies from Japan and South Korea have shown that alkaline mineral water is effective in supporting the treatment of conditions such as increased stomach acid secretion, indigestion, diarrhea, and normalizing the gut microbiome, earning the trust of consumers.
At the workshop, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Nga, CEO of Khánh Hòa Mineral Water Joint Stock Company, shared that natural alkaline mineral water is effective in supporting conditions like increased stomach acid secretion, gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux, indigestion, and colitis. In addition, natural alkaline mineral water is beneficial for improving sleep, enhancing recovery after intense physical activity, improving bone density in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, reducing blood viscosity, and helping detoxify at the cellular level.
