Recently, representatives from the Western Food Export Processing Joint Stock Company (Westfood) have visited and worked with the People’s Committee of Dong Thap province, proposing the construction of raw material areas and agro-processing plants within the province. Mr. Pham Thien Nghia – Chairman of the People’s Committee of the province welcomed the business.
Dong Thap has more than 277,000 ha of agricultural land, with many specialty fruit trees and flowers such as mango, longan, tangerine, lotus, corn, sweet potato, sesame, etc. Farmers have a lot of experience, cultivation techniques, and are especially ready to cooperate and link up for stable development. These are extremely favorable factors for the construction of specialized agricultural zones that bring high income for farmers.

Noticing that Dong Thap has all the favorable conditions for raw material development, at the recent meeting with Mr. Pham Thien Nghia – Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet – Chairman cum General Director of Westfood said that the business wants to build a lotus planting raw material area in Dong Thap, with an area of about 500 ha. Followed by the construction of mango, corn and other fruits, flowers raw material areas to supply raw materials for the domestic market and export. In the future, Westfood will research to invest in the processing plants of agricultural products in Dong Thap for longer-term development. To achieve this goal, Westfood wishes to receive the support of the province in connecting the raw material areas, linking with farmers, cooperatives in the province to effectively deploy the project.
The Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, expressed his welcome to Westfood’s raw material development project in Dong Thap. He assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related departments to support and provide information to Westfood to implement the raw material construction investment project.

The highlight is the MD2 King pineapple raw material area – one of the sweetest and most uniformly sized pineapple varieties in the world. Previously, Westfood has successfully helped people in Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province to convert plant varieties from 2017 to now. It is known that for every 1 ha of King MD2 pineapple planting land, farmers in Phung Hiep district can earn VND 80 million to VND 100 million per year. This profit level is 8-10 times higher than sugar cane growing.
The company also promotes the development of raw material areas for the company’s key products such as lotus seeds, mangoes, pineapples, corn… Currently, the majority of lotus seed raw materials are primarily purchased by Westfood from Dong Thap. Coming up, the company will start constructing the European standard Westfood factory in Hau Giang, with a land area of 07 ha and put into operation in 2024. The expansion of the lotus seed raw material area in Dong Thap is one of Westfood’s important plans to meet input materials, increase production for the factory in Can Tho as well as in Hau Giang.
