The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just organized an online conference to combine activities in the first 9 months of the year, of the Industry and Trade Division in 63 provinces and cities. Mr. Nguyen Tri Dung, Director of Western Export Processing Joint Stock Company (Westfood) represented the business and the Leadership Board of Can Tho city attended at the bridge point of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city.
According to a report at the conference, regardless of the impact of the Covid-19 on all aspects of the economy, many key economic localities had to distance themselves, yet the socio-economic picture in the first 9 months of the year was still maintained an increase of 1.42%, social security was guaranteed, macroeconomic stability was stable, inflation is under control. Agencies at the central and local levels have well and effectively implemented the prevention and control of the COVD-19 epidemic.

Discussing at the conference, the leaders of localities in which Can Tho city had recommendations and proposed solutions to focus on directing and promoting the concentration of production and promotion of consumption, in which great deal of attention was paid to: Focusing on the domestic market, balancing key items and equipment, especially on peak occasions such as the Lunar New Year, completing and synchronizing more effectively the processes of trade and policy, as also expanding the export field.
The fourth wave of Covid-19 has outbroken from the end of April 2021 until now, especially in important provinces and cities such as Can Tho with complicated developments that having a serious impact on production and business activities, posing many challenges to the operation of businesses in the area. In which, Westfood – one of the major and key enterprises of the city also encountered high production costs because it had to produce according to option 3 on the spot, as well as the labor force was not enough to meet the signed amount of raw materials. However, with the support of the city’s leadership, Westfood has gradually overcome difficulties, added more workers through 2 phases, increased resources in time to meet the requirements of export orders.

As of October 1, 2021, the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City approved and granted a license for Westfood to resume operations under the “2 on-site – green zone” option with the number of 340 people, of which 143 people switched from the “3 on-site” to the “2 on-site – green area” option. Westfood is also applying for additional support for the remaining 312 employees of the company who have just completed the 1st dose of Covid-19 vaccine on October 11, 2021, working under the “2 on-site- green zone” option and injecting the vaccine dose 2 for 242 workers.
