Westfood Exporting and Processing Joint Stock Company (Westfood) has signed a memorandum of understanding, agreed to cooperate in expanding, developing and exploiting the MD2 pineapple planting material area with an expected area of up to 2,000 hectares with the People’s Committee of Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province.
This activity is within the framework of the Conference “A brief overview of the inefficient land conversion model to other crops and praising farmers for good production and creative start-ups – Removing difficulties in the process of producing and consuming Agricultural products” held by the People’s Committee of Phung Hiep District on the morning of March 22, 2022.
Phung Hiep is a locality where Westfood has brought the MD2 pineapple variety to trial since 2017. With an income for pineapple growers of 80 million to 110 million VND/year, from the original 4 hectares of MD2 pineapple cultivation area, it has now grown to nearly 100 hectares. The model of association and cooperation between Westfood and farmers to develop the MD2 pineapple material area is evaluated as two of many models that bring high economic efficiency in the locality.

At the conference, Mr. Bui Duc Hoan, Deputy General Director in charge of Finance and the Raw Material Area Project of Westfood said that the area of the raw material area in Phung Hiep has 33 hectares with Global Gap certification; Expected fruit production in 2022 is 2,800 tons.
People in Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province are happy when planting MD2 pineapple brings higher income than other varieties.
Setting the target for the MD2 pineapple area development plan in Phung Hiep district – the 2022 – 2030 plan, Westfood will continue to promote the achieved results to expand the high-quality and stable MD2 pineapple material area with a scale of 2,000 hectares. The goal is to reach 1,000 hectares by the end of 2025 and 2,000 hectares by the end of 2027, of which the area meeting Global Gap standards will reach 50% of the area.
Westfood is honored to be one of the Enterprises receiving the Certificate of Merit for its outstanding and typical achievements in implementing the Model of Good Farmers – Innovative Start-up Model.
It is worth mentioning that although it is not the first enterprise to bring new pineapple varieties to Vietnam for testing, Westfood is the first enterprise to mark success with MD2, contributing to raising the brand name for Vietnamese agricultural products. Westfood’s participation in Hau Giang has helped the province create a raw material area to connect with people and provide jobs as well as a stable source of income, and increase income in the local agricultural sector.
