On March 30th, 2024, the Westfood Export Food Processing Joint Stock Company, in collaboration with the Ninh Kieu District Labor Union of Can Tho City and the Ninh Kieu District’s Mass Mobilization Committee, held a ceremony to present a “Union Home” to Mr. Vo Tan Luc, a member of the Westfood base trade union who is facing difficult housing circumstances.
Operating primarily in the canned fruit export sector, Westfood has a large workforce, with a significant portion being poor laborers lacking stable housing. The leadership of Westfood has continually sought ways to improve the living conditions of its workers, especially in providing them with stable and peaceful homes.
Recognizing the importance of stable housing for workers’ well-being, since 2017, Westfood has collaborated with the Ninh Kieu District Labor Union to implement the “Union Home” program. This initiative aims to support workers in difficult circumstances, especially those without homes or living in severely deteriorated conditions, unable to afford repairs.

The handover of a “Union Home” to union member Vo Tan Luc is a continuation of houses delivered in previous years. In 2024, Westfood and the Ninh Kieu District Labor Union, along with the District’s Mass Mobilization Committee, completed the handover of a union home to Mr. Luc, a union member struggling with housing issues. Mr. Luc’s family, including his wife and brother, have been working at Westfood since 2011 and have made significant contributions to the company. Following a survey of his actual situation, the base trade union committee and the district labor union recommended that the Can Tho City Labor Union support Mr. Luc with 50 million VND from the city’s “Golden Heart” fund. With additional personal savings, Mr. Luc was able to construct a solid house on his family’s land, covering an area of 60m2, with a total cost of over 120 million VND. Moreover, several meaningful gifts were also presented to Mr. Luc to encourage him to strive further and remain committed to his duties.

The “Union Home” program is not just a material support initiative but also a symbol of compassion and deep concern from the company’s leadership and various levels of the trade union for the lives of laborers. It serves as a clear testament to the spirit of mutual assistance within the labor community. This program continuously motivates and fulfills the dreams of a stable life for union members and employees facing difficulties, spreading warmth and belief among Westfood’s workers and fostering a strong sense of unity and trust within the company.
