Established in 2003 with a charter capital of VND 9 billion, Western Export Food Processing Joint Stock Company (WestFood) has grown steadily over the years. By focusing on its core values, WestFood is sowing the seeds for the future through sustainably developed raw material regions.
Recognizing the development of raw material areas as a critical factor in product quality, WestFood has proactively established its own supply zones — most notably, its MD2 pineapple cultivation area. MD2 is one of the world’s most consistent pineapple varieties in terms of sweetness and size. WestFood has successfully acclimatized the MD2 variety from South America to Vietnam and continues to expand its cultivation scale. In 2022, WestFood planted 140 hectares of MD2 pineapple, with plans to expand to 1,000 hectares by 2028, 50% of which will meet GLOBAL GAP standards.
“WestFood has developed 150 hectares of MD2 pineapple. Within the next 2–3 years, we plan to expand by an additional 200 hectares in partnership with a plantation we’re currently working with, and another 100 hectares in cooperation with local farmers. We are fully confident in our ability to proactively manage raw material sources to meet our production goals over the next three years,” shared Ms. Nguyễn Thị Minh Nguyệt, Chairwoman of WestFood’s Board of Directors.
Through close collaboration with farmers and strategic investment in raw material zones, WestFood has created a sustainable agricultural ecosystem that not only increases farmers’ income but also promotes local economic development. The company’s factory in Hậu Giang stands as a testament to these efforts, providing employment for thousands and supporting the establishment of high-quality MD2 pineapple farming areas.
