Pineapple is a highly versatile fruit and is considered one of WestFood’s key strategic products. After extensive research and field assessments, WestFood selected the MD2 variety — globally renowned for its fragrance, vibrant yellow flesh, crisp texture, sweetness, large size, shallow eyes, and nearly thornless exterior — for trial cultivation in its dedicated farming zones. MD2 is known for combining the superior traits of the Queen and Cayenne varieties, the two most commonly grown pineapple types in Vietnam.

Following its introduction, the quality of WestFood’s MD2 pineapple has not only convinced the farmers involved in production but also impressed experts, representatives of local authorities, agricultural departments, and farmer associations. Notably, although WestFood was not the first enterprise to bring the MD2 variety to Vietnam for testing, it is the first to achieve significant success with it — demonstrating both the company’s strategic investment and the leadership’s commitment to elevating Vietnamese agricultural products to new heights.

WestFood currently maintains more than 150 hectares of MD2 pineapple cultivation and aims to expand to 1,200 hectares by 2030, with 50% of the area meeting GLOBALG.A.P standards. This foundation enables WestFood’s products to access the most demanding markets, including Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea.

According to WestFood representatives, GLOBALG.A.P comprises 252 criteria, including 36 mandatory requirements that must be met 100%, 127 criteria that allow up to 95% compliance, and 89 recommended practices.
“To achieve GLOBALG.A.P certification, the entire chain — from growers and harvesters to processors and distributors — must establish a comprehensive food safety monitoring and control system. This begins with farm preparation and continues through harvesting, processing, and storage. For instance, the soil must be properly prepared and free from contamination; water sources must be safe; plant varieties must be disease-free; and all agricultural inputs must be approved materials, primarily organic, to ensure consumer safety.
Additionally, all individuals involved in the process must record every production step — from planting to harvesting and storage — to ensure traceability in cases of food poisoning, chemical residue issues, or any other incidents,” a WestFood representative shared.

WestFood’s methodical investment in GLOBALG.A.P-certified raw material areas has enabled the company to significantly improve product quality, meet international standards, and expand opportunities to access highly selective markets. The Congress took place at a time when the country is entering a critical phase of administrative boundary restructuring — a historic decision marking a period of renewal and strong reorganization to meet development demands in a new era. This context also places higher expectations on the workforce and trade union organizations as they accompany enterprises and contribute to the stability and sustainability of the national economy.

With the motto “Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Innovation – Development”, the Congress clearly defined the role of the Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Trade Union during this transition: not only to care for and protect workers’ rights, but also to help build a strong and capable workforce — a fundamental pillar for the company’s growth and the nation-building process.

For years, the DCL Trade Union has been a spiritual support for more than 800 employees, serving as a bridge between the Board of Directors and the company’s staff. Worker representation and protection have been effectively implemented through the Collective Labor Agreement, which includes several benefits exceeding standard regulations. The union ensures that 100% of employees are fully covered by social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance, and accident insurance. It also consistently organizes welfare activities such as hospital visit support, periodic health check-ups, birthday and holiday gifts, company trips, and recognition for long-term employees.

In parallel, the Trade Union has placed strong emphasis on building a rich cultural environment and promoting corporate values through emulation movements, sports and cultural activities, and internal exchanges, contributing to a cohesive and friendly workplace. The union has actively encouraged employees to help build a green – clean – beautiful working environment following the 5S standards, and has embedded the five core values — Sincerity, Compliance, Desire for Victory, Continuous Improvement, and Perfect Execution — as guiding principles in daily work and conduct.

Its collaboration with company leadership is also reflected in participation in production–business planning, process improvement toward innovation and technology, involvement in HR policy development, human resource training, and nurturing outstanding union members for Party admission consideration.

These efforts have produced remarkable results during the 2023–2028 term: more than VND 786 million allocated to employee welfare activities; 112 new members admitted to the union; 6 exemplary members introduced for Party admission; and numerous charity initiatives raising over VND 29.5 million for community support. The union was recognized as “Excellently Fulfilling Its Duties” for the entire term, reaffirming its role as a reputable representative organization and a solid support for employees.

Entering the new 2025–2030 term, the DCL Trade Union will focus on renewing its operational methods, enhancing the capacity of union officials, strengthening the protection of workers’ rights, ensuring workplace safety, promoting emulation movements linked with productivity improvement and technological adoption, and further building a strong, sustainable union organization with emphasis on developing future leaders.

In an atmosphere of openness and democracy, delegates from both Business and Production divisions contributed many practical insights on training, improving working conditions, and strengthening emulation movements linked to productivity, quality, and safety. These proposals were acknowledged and incorporated into the direction for the new term.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee for the 2025–2030 term, consisting of 09 members trusted by union members, expected to continue steering the union toward greater innovation, effectiveness, and closer connection with employees.

After many years of use, the current executive building has shown limitations in functionality and workspace, no longer meeting the needs of the company’s expanding operations. “Given this reality, DCL’s leadership has agreed on the plan to upgrade and construct a new executive building with a modern scale, full amenities, aesthetic appeal, functional design, and alignment with the company’s long-term development strategy,” shared Mr. Luong Ngoc Luong, Head of Construction Investment Management at F.I.T Group.

According to the plan, the new executive building will have three floors with a total floor area of over 1,200 m²: the ground floor covering 429 m², and both the first and second floors covering 402 m² each. The building’s design emphasizes open, airy workspaces that maximize natural light while integrating various supporting facilities such as multi-purpose meeting rooms, reception areas, and collaborative workspaces.

At the end of September 2025, Bai Sau Beach in Vung Tau buzzed with excitement as nearly 470 DCL employees and staff from affiliated companies participated. Previously, on August 29, 2025, the National Institute for Drug Quality Control (NIDQC) issued Official Document No. 1171/VKNTTW-KHTH, accompanied by Test Report No. 55L528 dated August 29, 2025, confirming the results of the supplementary testing and affirming that the drug sample Projoint 750 (Registration No.: VD-20684-14) meets the approved internal quality standards submitted to the regulatory authorities.

On September 9, 2025, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) issued Official Dispatch No. 2565/QLD-CL, concluding that the Projoint 750 sample complies with the required quality standards as prescribed.

The Projoint 750 (Glucosamine sulfate 750 mg) drug product manufactured by DCL has been officially reinstated to the market.

Based on the published investigation results, on September 10, 2025, Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company issued Official Letter No. 373/CV.DCL to the Hanoi Department of Health, notifying that the drug product Projoint 750 (Glucosamine sulfate 750 mg, Registration No.: VD-20684-14, Batch No.: 01210524, Mfg. Date: 21/05/2024, Exp. Date: 21/05/2027) manufactured by the company had been confirmed to meet the required quality standards. The company also requested the Department to issue an amended document to revoke the validity of Official Dispatch No. 4133/SYT-NVD dated August 11, 2025, sent to relevant units, in order to ensure consistency and prevent any impact on the circulation and timely supply of the product to customers and partners.

After a period of careful review and verification, the Hanoi Department of Health agreed with Cuulong Pharmaceutical’s request and issued Official Dispatch No. 5180/SYT-NVD, confirming that Projoint 750 meets quality standards and lifting the recall order for the product.

Thus, after nearly three months (from August 7, 2025 to September 29, 2025) of scientific, transparent, and objective review and investigation with the participation of competent authorities, the product Projoint 750 (Glucosamine sulfate 750 mg, Registration No.: VD-20684-14, Batch No.: 01210524, Mfg. Date: 21/05/2024, Exp. Date: 21/05/2027) manufactured by Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company has been officially confirmed to meet quality standards and approved for continued circulation in the market to promptly meet public demand.

On the morning of September 26, WestFood officially inaugurated the Hau Giang Agro-Food Processing Complex, located in Song Hau Industrial Park – Phase 1, Chau Thanh Commune (Can Tho City). The plant has a designed capacity of 30,000 tons of finished products per year and a total investment of nearly VND 670 billion.

The inauguration of the Hau Giang Agro-Food Processing Complex marks the successful collaboration between the enterprise and the Can Tho City government.

The plant is one of the projects inaugurated to celebrate the 1st Congress of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology that meets European standards, the factory includes a European IQF quick-freezing system, a three-tier automated conveyor system, automatic fruit peeling and slicing machines, automated canned and cup fruit production lines, and cold and chilled storage facilities with a total capacity of up to 3,000 tons.

Nguyen Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, emphasized that in recent years, the city has focused on improving the investment environment, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing human resource quality to attract large-scale, modern, and environmentally friendly projects.

He also urged WestFood to continue researching and surveying opportunities to invest in additional agricultural processing facilities to better utilize the region’s abundant raw material resources.

Once operational, the Hau Giang Agro-Food Processing Complex will contribute to the formation of a closed agricultural supply chain, ensuring stable output for raw material areas in Can Tho and neighboring provinces.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hoa recommended that WestFood operate the plant and manage its investment capital efficiently while continuing to upgrade technology, diversify products, expand export markets, and increase raw material areas. These efforts, he said, will help enhance the global presence of the Can Tho agricultural brand.

With a vision to make WestFood one of Vietnam’s leading agricultural processing enterprises, Chairwoman and CEO Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in advanced technology to ensure the highest product quality that meets the strict standards of demanding markets.

Over the past 20 years, WestFood’s products have reached many major international markets such as the EU, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and China. Its main products include canned fruits, frozen and semi-dried vegetables and fruits, and fresh produce.

Since 2018, WestFood has partnered with local farmers in My Tu, Long Hung, and Phuong Binh communes (Can Tho City) to cultivate MD2 pineapples on formerly acidic soil. The company has since developed 150 hectares of MD2 pineapple farming areas and plans to expand to 1,200 hectares by 2030.

Farmer Tran Hoang Nghia from Long Hung Commune shared that thanks to WestFood’s technical guidance, which helped reduce production costs and increase yields, as well as the company’s commitment to purchasing all harvested products, his family has earned over VND 150 million per hectare annually in recent years.

“After more than seven years of cultivating MD2 pineapples on previously barren land, farmers’ lives have significantly improved. Rural areas are becoming more prosperous, and people’s livelihoods are increasingly stable,” Nghia said.

At the inauguration ceremony, WestFood also signed cooperation agreements with its domestic and international partners, reinforcing its commitment to building a sustainable agricultural value chain.

The WestFood Hau Giang Plant was built on an area of 7 hectares with a total investment of more than VND 666 billion and a designed capacity of 30,000 tons of finished products per year. The factory is equipped with cutting-edge European-standard technology, including an Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) system, an automated three-tier conveyor line, automatic fruit peeling and cutting machines, automated canning and fruit cup production lines, and cold and chilled storage facilities with a capacity of up to 3,000 metric tons. Currently, WestFood employs more than 700 staff and workers, contributing to the socio-economic development of the local area.

He also encouraged the company to continue research and propose additional agro-food processing complex projects to maximize the city’s abundant agricultural resources.

On behalf of the local authorities, the Can Tho City government reaffirmed its commitment to accompany and support enterprises by creating the most favorable conditions for stable operations, sustainable development, and future production expansion.
